8 Ways To Give Christmas Gifts Without Spending a Dime

To contact us Click HERE
Hand-made Felt OrnamentMaybe you are knee high in bills this year.  Maybe you recently lost a job.  Maybe you are college student with little cash to spare. Whatever your situation, Christmas can certainly add oodles of stress to a pocketbook that's nearly empty.

But, just because you may not have bundles of cash in hand, it doesn’t have to mean that you can’t give generously at Christmas. There is a vast selection of gifts that cost nothing (or close to nothing).

1. Crop: If you like to scrapbook, make a page for a friend or loved one. Use materials you already have to save money. If you have children, relatives will go ga-ga over your gift.  If you are short on ideas, make a page detailing what you appreciate about the recipient- this will truly be a treasured gift.  If you're a student away at college, you can make a page showing your life at school for a younger sibling who misses you.

2. Write: Some people are always hard to buy for, whether you have money or not. Why not buy a nice card and then include a handwritten letter. Not a note, but a real letter. Grandparents particularly enjoy receiving letters as they are not always in the loop electronically (on Facebook, email, and so on.) It doesn’t cost you anything to spend 20 minutes jotting down details of your week, a few childhood memories and a quick “I miss you”.

3. Read: Hunt down free magazine subscriptions. Search the internet for deals and freebies. You can often find magazine subscriptions for free and rather than sending to yourself, have them sent to someone on your gift list. Then write a note in a card to let them know the subscription is a gift from you! Keep your eyes open. Everyone loves getting a brand new magazine to read each month and they’ll remember who gave it to them.

4. Bake: If you enjoy baking, head home and get in the kitchen. Fresh baked goods are always appreciated and do not cost much. The best part is that you likely have most of the ingredients on–hand already.  You don't need fancy containers, either.  Use a mason jar and some ribbon, or cover a paper plate with wrapping paper, then put cookies, brownies or other goodies atop and wrap with saran wrap.

5. Craft:  Chances are, if you sew, draw, paint, or use any form of craft materials, you likely have extra materials on hand.  Create simple ornaments or other holiday decorations from felt, glass beads, small drawings, or other form of craft medium to gift. Everyone loves a personal touch.  My favorite ornaments, to this day, are the Raggedy Anne and Andy ones my grandmother made from clothes pins, yarn, and scraps of fabric.

6. Brag: College students this one is especially for you: Normally, you are discouraged from bragging but its ok with parents. Wrap up your grades or an “A” paper. They miss being part of your day-to-day education and will be thrilled to be included. Reading a paper, whether they understand the subject or not, will make them proud. You can’t buy that.

7. Watch: Children, that is. If you have older siblings, relatives, or friends with children, volunteer to babysit. It may seem hokey to you, but they will love the opportunity to get out of the house knowing they have a babysitter they can trust. Better yet, make a simple card gift certificate for a free night of babysitting or two and tie a nice ribbon around it to gift.

8. Record: Many of your friends and family are likely just as strapped for cash as you and do not expect a gift. You can, however, burn a CD of holiday songs for them. (Just be mindful of copyright laws, there are a lot of free tunes available for copying.)

The key to remember is that no one expects you to buy them an expensive gift. They are just happy to see you and spend time with you. Don’t stress the gift; you don’t need to spend money at Christmas to make your family and friends happy.

Hot Toys for 2012: Klutz Books #Giveaway

To contact us Click HERE
Are they books or are they toys?  It's a bit difficult to niche Klutz into any one category.  There may be a need to create a new category, one just for Klutz's creative play options and the sheer joy their entertaining products offer for children and adults alike.

My favorite Klutz book are the DIY style craft titles like "Capsters" bottle cap jewelry art and "Beaded Bands" (pictured) featuring loom-woven bracelets.

Everything you need to create: information, materials, directions, ideas, and inspiration are included in each well-designed Klutz guide. Upon opening, multiple projects will be at your finger-tips awaiting your creative input.

For example, as you can see below, "Beaded Bands" comes with a custom loom, over 900 glass and specialty beads, closure beads, cord, beading thread, and 3 needles equipping the reader to create a wardrobe of beautifully beaded bands that can be worn wrapped, stacked, or stylishly solo.

If crafts aren't your "thing," Klutz offers craft, art, science, building, game, and oodles of other terrific expressive book styles to suit every interest, hobby, or passion. You'll find books on topics like "Make a Mummy, Shrink a Head, and Other Useful Skills" to "Star Wars Folded Flyers" and "Lego Crazy Action Contraptions."

I could rave on and on about the quality and content of Klutz books (really I could because they are totally supercalifragilistic!) but I simply send you to explore the world of Klutz for yourself at http://www.klutz.com and within seconds I'm certain you'll agree there's a wide-range of highly-attractive, clever, interesting titles to choose from.

Heelys Swift Style 7855
New Heelys Swift style have
removable wheels
My boys have been fussing on and on about Heelys for some time now but I really didn’t have a clear idea why. Initially, I dismissed it. As we live in the country, dirt roads are plenty, opportunity to skate on concrete is not.

When our town built a skate park, I began to consider purchasing Heelys a little more, but still hesitated as I also figured they’d be heavier shoes, not practical for long-term wear. The thought of constantly transporting extra shoes was not appealing.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. Turns out Heelys have a super-light, everyday-wear athletic design. And, in fact, they’ve now launched the Swift line of ultra-light Heelys to help keep kids moving all day long!

With the Heelys versatile design, my children will be able to wear them to school and then readily skate on the playground or in the skate park lickety-split by inserting the easily portable wheels. Then pop them back out again to go home or off to additional activities.

After having the opportunity to inspect them, I’m impressed with the quality of materials, fluidity of design, colors and style, and overall construction.

Heelys Swift
Are they athletic shoes or skates?  The unique 2 in 1 design is both!

I not only love the design, I’m really happy about the sport aspect of this shoe. Heelys encourage movement, balance, coordination, and did I mention… movement!? Too often I’m finding myself yipping at the boys to go out and play more so I’m all for any toy, especially a practical one, that inspires just that.

Better than I can describe, this is what Heelys look like in action:

Without a doubt, I’m certainly going to have some happy kids on Christmas morning!

Check out all the styles and features of Heelys and shop your holiday list at http://heelys.com

Twisted Sista Review

To contact us Click HERE

Sooo when I said I was going to post this review over the weekend, clearly that meant Wednesday :)Without further adieu here we go...Twisted Sista De-frizz shampoo: Claims: Gently cleanses hair without drying, smoothing away frizz and leaving hair soft, silky and static free.Normal consistency, great foaming and a little goes a long way. It left my hair and scalp feeling squeaky clean but not stripped. I noticed my hair did feel smoother after using it.
Twisted Sista De-frizz conditioner: Claims: Detangles, calms, soothes, conditions, leaving the hair ready to style-minus the frizz.I used this immediately after the shampoo and detangled in sections. It didn't do anything special for me. Took a little longer to detangle because it doesn't have a lot of slip.
The consistency is fairly thick but it spreads easily and absorbs into the hair fairly fast. I actually prefer it as a leave in conditioner :)
Twisted Sista Curl Activator: Claims: Puts the life back into tired, saggy curls. Delivering volume, bounce and curl definition to naturally curly, afro or permed hair.Ok, I really didn't have my hopes up for this one because my hair is crazy and just cannot be tamed. Gels are the only products that enhance my natural curl pattern.
This product is creamy and pretty much just sat on my hair. If your hair is into creamy products this might be for you. As an added bonus it contains a UV filter to protect your hair from the sun and antioxidants.
Twisted Sista 30 second Curl Spray: Claims: Revitalizes curls instantly.Yes ma'am. I'd have to agree. This product was a winner for me. Very moisturizing spritz and it added shine to my tresses. It's the perfect curl re-fresher, and it smells amazing! Actually all of the products smell great. The scent is hard to describe but I like it. My only gripe is that the bottle is so small. Ya'll know I love my big bottles :D I went through that 5.07oz bottle in 2 weeks! The UV filter and antioxidants are also featured in this product. Sun damage is real!Twisted Sista Different Strokes Serum: Claims: Instantly eliminates frizz for both straight and curly hairstyles.Does a great job of taming the frizz. Adds great shine as well. I used this on my hair both curly and straight.Twisted Sista Blow Drying Creme: Claims: Reduces blow drying time, protects hair from heat styling, hydrates hair and adds shine, adds volume, contains UV filter.I really like this! Not sure why it's called a creme, it looks more like a gel to me. I digress! I used it when I was blow drying my hair straight and it definitely sped up the process. My hair dried faster and got straighter than it would without product.

Holiday Gift Guide - Candlewick Press FUN WITH FURRY ANIMAL FRIENDS

To contact us Click HERE
I love encouraging my children to read. All four of us read together every night. The older ones like to read to the little ones. Some of our favorite books come from Candlewick Press. They have books that appeal to kids of all ages and reading levels. They make reading fun with scary real life adventures and cute cuddly animals that encourage kids to read. Here are just a few of the books that should be on your holiday wish list.

Create With Maisy by Lucy Collins 9780763661229 ∙ July 2012 ∙ Hardcover ∙ $16.99 ∙ 48 pages ∙ 2-5 year

Why does Maisy keep a Big Box of Everything, filled with glitter, sequins, foil, stickers, paint, brushes, paper, and tons more stuff? Because she loves to make things! Children as young as two will be thrilled to follow her lead, thanks to a brand-new Maisy format featuring both familiar illustrations and photographs by Lucy Cousins. Here are crystal-clear steps for creating seventeen simple crafts, highlighted by photos of the end result. Enjoy making things from painted pebbles to paper lanterns, food collages to feathered masks, and wax-relief paintings to wonderful vegetable animals. As spectacular looking as it is hands-on, here is an activity book sure to please parents as much as it does Maisy’s little fans.

The Adventures of Little Nutbrown Hare by Sam McBratney 9780763658960 ∙ August 2012 ∙ Hardcover ∙ $16.99 ∙ 72 pages ∙ 3 years and up
Just like young children everywhere, Little Nutbrown Hare likes to explore, play, venture out into the world, and sometimes just savor the comfort of being at home with loved ones. But whatever he does, and wherever he goes, Big Nutbrown Hare is always there to cheer him on. In a beautiful jacketed Guess How Much I Love You storybook, here are four heartwarming new stories that little readers (and their bigger companions) will instantly relate to.

Our Thoughts

This is a wonderful story for preschool aged children. It teaches children about being careful with their exploration, but also to appreciate the adults who try to protect them. My daughter loved the adorable illustrations. Its a story she's had me read to her almost every night since we got it.

Charley’s First Night by Amy Hest, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury 9780763640552 ∙ October 2012 ∙ Hardcover ∙ $15.99 ∙ 32 pages ∙ 3-6 years
On Charley’s first night, Henry carries his new puppy in his old baby blanket all the way to his house. He shows Charley every room, saying, "This is home, Charley." He says that a lot so that Charley will know that he is home. Henry’s parents are very clear about who will be walking and feeding Charley (Henry will, and he can’t wait). They are also very clear about where Charley will be sleeping: Charley will be sleeping in the kitchen. But when the crying starts in the middle of the night, Henry knows right away that it’s Charley! And it looks like his parents’ idea about where Charley is going to sleep may have to change. With warmth, humor, and endearing simplicity, Amy Hest tells a tale familiar to everyone who has loved a puppy, while Helen Oxenbury renders each tender gesture and charming detail in a beauty of a book that children will be eager to take home.
 Our Thoughts
As an animal lover, and someone who has picked up my fair share of strays, its hard not to love this story. Charley finds a little puppy and brings him home. Its a sweet and tender moment. However, the book also teaches kids the valuable lesson of responsibility. Charlie is only allowed to keep the puppy if he takes care f it, and he quickly learns just how much work a puppy can be.  I would recommend this book to anyone, but it would be an especially good book for anyone planning on bringing a new pet into the family.

Formats of the Future

The Extraordinary Family Adventure Floats to Blu-ray™ 3D, Blu-ray™ and DVD on December 11
Ice Age: Continental Drift will be releasing on special 3D and Digital Download formats, and this feature will aim to be an informative guide for parents on the advantages of utilizing these new formats with their families. We'll discuss benefits such as the stunning visuals on the 3D version, and easy viewing access on any iPad or tablet.
Sub-zero heroes Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon a high-seas adventure after their continent is set adrift.  Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they try to reunite with their herd.  In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.
Highest Quality Images

The special 3D format for Blu-ray provides the highest quality images out of any other 3D format on the market. It comes in the specific format known as “format packing” in which the original content does not lose resolution when viewed in 3D. This means that you are watching the clearest image possible every single time you watch the movie.
Home Theater Experience

You don’t need a fancy home theater built into your home to get an incredible home theater experience. The special formats allow you to simply watch the movie in your living room and have it look just as it would on the big screen. This is great for quiet family movie nights as well as large gatherings and slumber parties.
Mobile Viewing

A convenient feature of the special formats is that they make your viewing experience mobile. It is now possible to watch Ice Age: Continental Drift anywhere you go! This is perfect to take in the car for long family road trips. Also, parents can watch the movie while they wait for their child during a dentist’s appointment or soccer practice.
De-clutter Your Home

A small yet important benefit to the Digital Download format is that it allows you to de-clutter your home by not having a physical DVD or Blu-ray copy to store. Once the movie is on your computer, you may watch it on multiple platforms if you have a gaming console such as the Play Station 3 or a media streamers box such as Apple TV. Additionally, you can contribute to living a green lifestyle by “going digital” which the Ice Age gang would fully appreciate.

One lucky winner is going to receive a copy of the  Ice Age: Continental Drift 3D Blu-ray and a cool ice cube tray. To enter, just fill in the Rafflecopter form below. This giveaway will end on 12/18/12. The winner will be notified via email and will have 48 hours to reply. Thanks again to Fox Home Entertainment for offering this fantastic prize.
