February Winter Snow on Rural Mom FarmWinter winds are whipping around for many of us, but there's still plenty to focus on!

February is a great month to:

- find deals on lingerie, menswear, jewelry and picture frames

- snag clearances on electronic left-overs from the holidays, sports equipment, and of course, after-Valentines Day candy and goodies

- prune fruit trees, roses, and vines (but be sure to avoid pruning in wet weather, wait for a string of dry days in the forecast.)

- plan winter travel and get a jump on spring break, too.  Planning early will ensure you get a broader selection of locations and deals to choose from.

- eat chocolate... after all, this is the month of love (and chocolates) and dark chocolate is known to have oodles of health benefits, so go on, indulge just a little bit.

- clean and organize your garden tools in preparation of the planting season that will soon be upon us.

- plant a window box herb garden.  Likely your supply from last year is dwindling and it's time to start new crops of flavor enhancers.

- start your spring vegetable seeds near the end of the month for optimum growth.

- try a new soup or crock pot dish.  A slow cooked warm winter dish will be well appreciated, plus you'll likely have a nice round of left-overs to enjoy or freeze for a break from cooking down the road.

A few recipes to get you started:

Beef in Stout With Herb Dumplings

Crockpot Root Vegetable Stew

Wild Rice Sausage Casserole
