Best Of Widget! features six endearing episodes – plus a special bonus show – that showcase the busiest builder and fix-it whiz in all of Wuzzleburg!  Pint-sized fans are in store for BIG adventures as Widget modifies a road racer for the Wuzzleburg Derby in “Widget’s Wild Ride,” tries to become a ballerina in “Gotta Dance,” and invents a solar-powered super-robot in “Gidget Super Robot.”  Additional episodes featured on the brand-new DVD include: “Eggs Over Easy,” “Widget Gets The Blooey Blues,” “The Super Fixers” and “Where’s My Wiggle Wrench?.”  There will be no shortage of nifty gadgets from Widget – and good times for the whole family with this new release!
Produced by Bolder Media, Inc. in association with Starz Media’s Film Roman Animation Studio, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! has been a hit with young viewers and families since its 2006 premiere on Nickelodeon®. The top-rated series, which airs daily on Nick Jr®, supports preschool social skills – sharing, listening, compromising, helping and appreciating others, self-awareness and the use of humor as a coping skill.  Although their world is more fanciful and imaginative than our own, Wubbzy and his friends deal with the same social and developmental issues faced by preschoolers.  They learn how they fit into a group, how to understand their own feelings and those of others, how to get along with one another and about the value of friendship and community.

Our Thoughts
I had never heard of Shushbye until we received this DVD set, but since its arrival, its one of the only shows my younger kids want to watch. I have a three year old and a one year old, and this show appealed to them both. The love the adorable puppets and all forty of the songs are quickly becoming toe-tapping favorites. If you have kids who love music, they will really enjoy these. Plus they will learn things like counting, ABCs, cooperating with bedtime and so much more. This DVD set is five stars all the way.

Happy New Year!

I hope you all are enjoying 2013 so far. All is well over here. I try not to make resolutions because there's a 99.9% chance I'll be over it in a week.
However, I *am* setting some personal goals. This is my last year in my 20's *eek* the thought of that freaks me out. Not because I feel old, but because time feels like it's literally flying by.
One of my goals involves this blog. I want to expand beyond natural hair and the random beauty posts.
While I still love my curlies, there's only so much I can share. I know what products work for my hair and as far as styling goes...I tend to keep it pretty simple.
I will definitely still have posts on different styles and product reviews, but I'd also like to share some of my other interests with you!
I love trying new recipes so you can expect to see posts about my adventures in the kitchen...and uh teaching my boyfriend how to make more than spaghetti! (Video coming soon!)
You can also look forward to some fashion posts as well as beauty and personal finance.
I hope you all will continue to follow me as GlamsSwagger.com evolves. Let's make 2013 great.

“A year from now you will wish you had started today.” -Karen Lamb

Hey Winter Heeey!

This weather has been so wacky! Although this winter has been pretty mild so far, the DC area has had its share of frigid air as well.
The constant shift in temperatures has thrown me off my winter hair regimen. I typically switch over to heavier cream/oil based products and increase my protective styling. This year...I'm slacking.
I'm gonna get my life together, I promise.
I've just returned to my holy grail winter moisturizer.

Qhemet Biologic's "Amla and Olive Oil Heavy Cream."
My hair stays moist with this product. It also provides great shine and just enough definition for a decent twist out.

Here are a description of the product on Qhemet's website: "Our ultra thick cream contains Amla, Brahmi and African Aloe, premium Afro-Indian botanicals used for thousands of years to nourish the scalp and strengthen and condition hair. MSM sulfur nurtures follicles and encourages healthy hair growth, Mediterranean Olive Oil delivers emollience and lubricity while Vegetable Glycerin and pure African Castor Oil lends sheen, softness and intense moisture."
I let my hair loose as soon as I finished this post.

I just love big hair!! But I'll commit to protective styling at least 4 days out of the week to retain length.

Energy Kitchen DC

I was recently invited to the grand opening of a new restaurant with a pretty cool concept. It's called Energy Kitchen, and I would describe it as fast food for the health conscious. Everything on their menu is less than 500 calories!
I was able to try nearly everything they offer including burgers, fries, shakes and brownies.

The broccoli slaw (pictured above) was amazing! Probably my favorite thing next to the sirloin burger and sweet potato fries.

I chatted with Anthony Leone who is the President of Energy Kitchen. Super nice guy.
He was explaining to me how the menu was created and that everything was either baked, steamed or grilled. The meals are created as fuel to keep you energized.
I definitely tried a good assortment of their menu and I did notice although I was full, I didn't feel like I needed a nap. In other words, I didn't get the "itis."
Right now Energy Kitchen has locations in New York, DC, Florida and New Jersey. Check em' out if you're looking for a healthier alternative to typical fast food.

Champagne Shrimp and Angel Hair Recipe

To contact us Click HERE
Shrimps certainly lends an elegance to a holiday table and its elegance is out-shined only by its nutritional value, an added bonus when other holiday favorites pack on the pounds. A serving size of three ounces of shrimp delivers nearly 20 grams of protein and a healthy dose of B vitamins, iron, and omega-3s, with only 84 calories and less than one gram of fat (when cooked plain).

This delightful champagne shrimp recipe (compliments of the Shrimp Council,) will be a wonderful, tasty way to celebrate the new year.

Champagne Shrimp and Angel Hair

Ingredients

• 1 lb of shrimp, peeled and deveined
• 8 oz of angel hair pasta
• 2 cups of your choice of Champagne
• 1 cup of fresh mushrooms, sliced
• 1 cup of heavy cream
• 3 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped
• 2 tablespoons of minced shallots
• 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
• ¼ teaspoon of salt

Instructions

Cook the pasta as directed; drain afterwards and coat with a tablespoon of olive oil. White the pasta is cooking, heat the other tablespoon of extra virgin oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Cook the mushrooms in the olive oil until tender; then remove and set aside. Combine the shrimp, Champagne and salt in the pan, and cook over high heat. When the liquid starts to boil, remove the shrimp and add the shallots. Boil for 8 minutes; until reduced to about half a cup. Stir in 3/4 of the cream and boil for an additional 2 minutes. Add the shrimp and the mushrooms to sauce, heating through. Toss the hot, cooked pasta with the remaining 1/4 cup of cream and the freshly chopped parsley. Spoon the shrimp with sauce over the pasta and serve.Number of Servings: 2

5 Grocery Staples for Youth & Vitality

To contact us Click HERE
It’s the question we ask ourselves almost every day: What’s for dinner?

Entwined in this daily dialogue is wondering whether we’ll need to dash into the grocery store on the way home from work. The next time we make one of those supermarket pit stops, Dr. Eudene Harry, author of “Live Younger in 8 Simple Steps,” (www.LivingHealthyLookingYounger.com), would like us to veer in a new direction.

“When people shop on the go, they tend to gravitate toward old standbys and foods they can multipurpose with – usually not the most nutritious choices possible. But by substituting a few items on your list, you can not only look and feel more youthful, you’ll boost your resistance to certain cancers and other illnesses.”

Some of the most nutrition-packed foods not only taste great, they’re readily available at the grocery store and easy to prepare, Harry says.

“The more you eat, the more you’ll crave them.”

Here are five food combos for shoppers with healthy eating on their minds:

• Tomato, garlic, chicken and almonds: Tomatoes contain one of the world’s most concentrated sources of cancer-fighting lycopene, which is best absorbed from tomatoes that are cooked. Garlic has been used for centuries for various health purposes and is a known free-radical destroyer. Nuts help to lose weight, maintain healthy blood pressure and support moods; almond crumbs are a great substitute for bread crumbs on chicken. Pair these goodies with whole wheat couscous for a full dinner.

• Pomegranate-Balsamic tempeh: With its high protein, fiber and isoflavones content, and meaty texture, tempeh is heavily utilized by vegetarians. It’s made from soybeans processed in a manner similar to cheese making. Like tofu, tempeh takes on the flavors with which it is cooked or marinated, including zesty-tangy balsamic vinegar – perfect for accentuating salads.

• Mashed cauliflower gone Greek: Not only does the “original” yogurt have a thicker texture and richer taste, it’s also denser in lactobacilli, the healthy bacteria that may delay the onset of cancer. And yogurt is low in fat and high in protein, which is essential for many body functions, including building and repairing muscle tissue, organs, bones and connective tissue. Rather than add fatty, cholesterol-filled butter and sour cream to starchy potatoes that stick to your ribs, why not pair two healthy options with mashed cauliflower with Greek yogurt and fresh black pepper for simple goodness?

• Sushi – wild salmon, minced cucumbers, shredded carrots, kelp, sesame seeds and rice: A sushi roll is much more filling and satisfying than a non-sushi eater would think. Many grocery chains offer ready-made rolls, but they are also fairly easy to make. A bamboo roller is a great start; place a sheet of nutrient-dense kelp as the first thing on the roller, and add, lengthwise, desired ingredients. Your first try is not likely to be perfect, but the tasty and healthy ingredients will be there.

• Fruit salad for dessert: Bring together chopped apples, strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon and pineapple with blueberries and grapes for a sweet and juicy post-dinner palate-cleanser. Lemon juice prevents fruits from bruising. If that’s not enough, combine the salad with Greek yogurt – perhaps blended with vanilla or almond extract – and fiber-filled granola for a parfait.
